Uljin-gun Officially Opens County Memorial Park ... Crematorium Fully Operational from June 1
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Uljin County (Governor Jeon Chan-geol) announced on the 28th that it has completed the Uljin County Memorial Park project, a long-awaited comprehensive funeral facility, and will officially operate the crematorium starting June 1.
The Uljin County Memorial Park, built on an 180,000㎡ site in Sinrim-ri, Uljin-eup, with a budget of 22.8 billion KRW since 2013, is equipped with facilities including a crematorium (3 cremators), a columbarium (5,922 niches), a natural burial ground (6,092 plots), a family graveyard, an administration office, and a parking lot.
On April 2, ahead of the Cheongmyeong Hansik holiday, the columbarium and natural burial ground were temporarily opened to minimize inconvenience to residents. Subsequently, professional staff were hired, the surroundings of the memorial park were maintained, and preparations for operating the cremators and related facilities were completed.
Reservations for using the crematorium can be made through the 'e-Haneul Funeral Information System.' The usage fee is 100,000 KRW for residents within the county (those who have been registered residents for more than six months as of the date of death) and 400,000 KRW for non-residents. However, citizens of Samcheok and Pohang, as well as residents of Yeongyang, Yeongdeok, and Bonghwa counties, are charged the resident rate.

Jeon Chan-geol, Governor of Uljin County, said, "Residents had to endure much inconvenience due to the absence of a crematorium within the county, but now, with the establishment of an advanced and eco-friendly comprehensive funeral facility, we can reduce time and economic burdens and provide various funeral options. I am grateful to the residents who have continuously supported and encouraged the completion of the Uljin County Memorial Park project despite numerous difficulties."
