View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases has dropped back to the 500s after three days. On the 27th, 710,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in one day, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to over 4.69 million, surpassing 9.1% of the population.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 28th at midnight that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 587 from the previous day to 138,898. The sources of infection for the new cases were 571 local transmissions and 16 imported cases.
Among the locally transmitted cases, 67% occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area. There were 212 cases (37.1%) in Seoul, 146 cases (25.6%) in Gyeonggi Province, and 26 cases (4.6%) in Incheon, totaling 384 cases in the metropolitan area.
Outside the metropolitan area, cases were reported as follows: 24 in Daegu, 21 in Chungnam, 21 in Gyeongnam, 18 in Daejeon, 16 in Gangwon, 14 in Chungbuk, 14 in Gyeongbuk, 13 in Busan, 12 in Ulsan, 8 in Gwangju, 8 in Sejong, 7 in Jeonnam, 7 in Jeju, and 4 in Jeonbuk.
There were 16 imported cases. Among them, 11 were detected during quarantine, and 5 were confirmed locally. Four were Korean nationals and 12 were foreigners.
The total number of tests conducted the previous day was 76,457. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 31,507 tests were conducted, confirming 97 new cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 8,187 tests were conducted, confirming 9 cases.
The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation reached 128,761, an increase of 581 from the previous day. Among hospitalized patients, the number of critically ill patients increased by 2 to 156. The death toll rose by 3 to 1,946.

The number of people who have completed their second dose increased by 54,002 from the previous day to 2,068,877. By vaccine type, 42,191 received AZ and 11,811 received Pfizer. The second-dose vaccination rate relative to the population is 4.0%. The total number of second-dose completions by vaccine is 443,852 for AZ and 1,625,025 for Pfizer.
