Improvement of Working Environment at Gwanak-gu Clothing Manufacturing Companies
District Selected as Final Winner in 'Seoul-style Clothing Manufacturer Work Environment Improvement Project' Contest... Total Subsidy of 206 Million KRW, Up to 9 Million KRW per Company Supported
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has been finally selected for the “2021 Seoul-type Clothing Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Support Project” announced by Seoul City.
The “Seoul-type Clothing Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Support Project” is a program that provides supplies to improve the environment of clothing manufacturing companies working in outdated facilities and poor conditions, such as poor lighting and ventilation and dust generated due to the characteristics of clothing manufacturing work.
The supplies provided include safety management items (fire extinguishers, fire detectors, etc.), labor environment improvement items (industrial vacuum cleaners, LED lighting, etc.), as well as items necessary for improving work efficiency (pressing machines, cutting tables, etc.).
In March, the district received applications from clothing manufacturing companies registered in Gwanak-gu that met the basic requirements (▲ fewer than 10 regular employees ▲ agreement to follow-up management and actual condition measurement for 3 years ▲ no overdue national or local taxes as of the application deadline) and needed work environment improvements, and applied for the Seoul City public contest.
After Seoul City’s actual condition survey and subsidy review committee, the project was finally selected, securing 160 million KRW in city funds.
This year, including district funds, a total of 206 million KRW will be used to support 26 local businesses, with up to 9 million KRW provided per company.
The district has achieved the great success of being selected for the Seoul City Work Environment Improvement Support Project for three consecutive years in 2019, 2020, and 2021, becoming a strong support for small clothing manufacturers working in poor environments.
With this, including this project, Gwanak-gu was also finally selected for the Seoul City Clothing Manufacturing Collaboration Support Project (“Gwanak-gu Clothing Manufacturing Collaboration Platform Construction”) and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ public contest for “Small Business Cluster Joint Infrastructure Construction,” laying the foundation for the stagnant clothing manufacturing industry to take off again.

Mayor Park Junhee said, “Through this support project, I hope that small clothing manufacturers working in poor work environments can work in a safe and pleasant environment, improving work efficiency and productivity,” and added, “We will continue to actively respond to external contests and promote various support policies to strengthen the self-reliance and competitiveness of small clothing manufacturers.”
