Seoul Agricultural Technology Center Shares Flower Seeds with 1,000 Students from 31 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
In Celebration of Youth Month in May, Seoul City and NongHyup Central Seoul Headquarters Hold Event Distributing 6 Types of Flower Seeds
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Agricultural Technology Center and the Seoul Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation announced on the 28th that they will hold a flower seed sharing event for 1,000 students from 31 schools participating in the 'School 4-H Club,' which conducts various activities such as garden activities, environmental campaigns, rural experiences, and local volunteer work in celebration of Youth Month in May.
The 4-H Club, which started in the United States, represents the first letter (H) of the English words Head (智), Heart (德), Hands (勞), and Health (體).
This flower seed sharing event provides a bundle of six types of flower seeds: balsam, portulaca, marigold, sunflower, zinnia, and cosmos. These six types were selected as suitable for planting and cultivating during the transition from summer to autumn.
The Seoul city government expects this flower seed sharing event to offer an opportunity for emotional healing and practicing the 4-H ideals to 4-H members who may be experiencing psychological depression due to COVID-19.

Cho Sang-tae, Director of the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, said, “In a situation where online classes have been prolonged due to COVID-19 and face-to-face club activities are restricted, we hope that this 'flower seed sharing' event, promoted in cooperation with Seoul city and the Seoul Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation to encourage and comfort 4-H members, will be a good opportunity to reflect on respect for life in nature and the 4-H ideals.”
