[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Prosecutor Personnel Committee, which discusses the standards for prosecutor personnel appointments, has convened and started its meeting.
On the 27th at 2 p.m., the Ministry of Justice held the Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting at the Government Complex Gwacheon to deliberate on the promotion and transfer criteria for prosecutors at the chief prosecutor level and above.
Cho Jong-tae, Director of the Policy Bureau at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, who attended the meeting, arrived at the Government Complex Gwacheon and briefly responded to reporters' questions about "what topics will be discussed at the Personnel Committee" by saying, "I understand the Ministry of Justice has prepared well," before moving on.
Min Man-ki, a member of the Personnel Committee and Dean of the School of Law at Sungkyunkwan University, also replied to reporters' questions by saying, "I don't know anything yet."
This Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting was held the day after the confirmation hearing of Kim Oh-soo, the nominee for Prosecutor General, leading some to criticize it as "bypassing the Prosecutor General."
Regarding this, Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, stated, "The Prosecutor Personnel Committee is a place to decide principles and standards, not to deliberate on specific individuals," and added, "Once the Prosecutor General nominee is appointed, there will be a procedure to publicly and officially hear opinions."

The Prosecutor Personnel Committee consists of 11 members, including one chairman, prosecutors, judges, lawyers, law professors, and individuals with knowledge and experience, and decisions are made by a majority vote.
