[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education is establishing a personalized learning support system for students in collaboration with the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS). Starting from March next year, AI-based learning diagnostic services will also be provided to elementary and middle school students.

On the 27th, the Ministry of Education announced that it will promote the 'EBS Utilization Educational Content Production Project' and build an 'AI-based Learning Diagnostic System.'

EBS will produce approximately 170,000 pieces of content to enable students from kindergarten to high school to engage in self-directed learning at various levels, from basic to advanced. With an investment of 34.3 billion KRW, the project aims to diversify educational content, including self-directed learning materials for students, immersive content for teachers to use in classes, and elementary arts and physical education content, while also expanding support for vulnerable groups.

The courses developed by EBS will be sequentially uploaded to the EBS self-directed learning website for elementary, middle, and high school students by the end of the year. Some courses are already available, and anyone can take them for free. EBS also plans to upload the content developed through this project to the 'Teacher Lesson Material Production Support Platform' so that teachers can utilize them in their classes.

Additionally, EBS will pilot a learning support service (mentoring service) based on learning content for students who are relatively lacking in self-directed learning skills. Since its launch in March, about 1,120 students have participated in this service.

The Ministry of Education and EBS will invest 8.3 billion KRW in the 'AI-based Learning Diagnostic System Construction Project.' They will enhance the existing AI learning diagnostic service for high school students called 'Danchoo' and expand the service to elementary and middle school students. A pre-diagnostic service will be developed to assess learning levels, and a feature allowing incorrect questions to be used as an error note will also be provided.

Furthermore, a function will be developed that allows teachers to select evaluation questions provided by the AI learning diagnostic system to create assessment sheets and distribute them via 'EBS Online Class,' enabling use in lessons. EBS plans to promote industry-academia cooperation with graduate schools specializing in AI to enhance subject-specific learning analysis and problem/course recommendation services.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye stated, "This project will resolve difficulties faced by schools regarding content and serve as a stepping stone to lead innovation in teaching and learning."

EBS President Kim Myung-jung said, "Together with the Ministry of Education, we will do our best to close the educational gap so that all students can fill learning gaps without private education through various level-specific personalized learning services."
