Dobong-gu Supports Residents' Livelihood Stability After Unexpected Accidents
From May 20, Any Dobong-gu Resident Registered in the Resident Registration Can Automatically Enroll Without Separate Procedures... Coverage Expanded to 8 Items Including Infectious Disease Deaths, Explosions, Fires, Collapses, Public Transportation, and School Zone Accidents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) will implement the Dobong-gu Citizen Safety Insurance starting May 20 to provide minimum living stabilization funds to residents who suffer damage from unexpected accidents and disasters, offering consolation and assistance for their return to daily life.
The eligible participants include all residents registered in Dobong-gu, including foreigners registered in Dobong-gu and overseas Koreans who have reported residence in Dobong-gu.
If eligible, residents are automatically enrolled without any separate registration process, and automatic enrollment also applies when moving into Dobong-gu from other regions during the insurance period. However, automatic termination occurs upon moving out to another region.
The detailed coverage items of this Citizen Safety Insurance include eight categories: ▲death from infectious diseases ▲treatment expenses for injuries from school zone traffic accidents ▲death from gas injuries ▲permanent disability from gas injuries ▲death from explosion, fire, or collapse injuries ▲permanent disability from explosion, fire, or collapse injuries ▲death from injuries while using public transportation ▲permanent disability from injuries while using public transportation. Compared to last year, the scope of coverage has been expanded to provide more practical benefits to residents.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance, available to all Seoul citizens, covers ▲death from natural disasters ▲death from explosion, fire, collapse, or landslide accidents ▲permanent disability from explosion, fire, collapse, or landslide accidents ▲death from accidents while using public transportation ▲permanent disability from accidents while using public transportation ▲death from robbery injuries ▲permanent disability from robbery injuries ▲treatment expenses for injuries from school zone traffic accidents, and can overlap with Dobong-gu Citizen Safety Insurance coverage.
Dobong-gu residents who suffer damage corresponding to any of the eight coverage items under the Citizen Safety Insurance can file a claim with the Korea Local Finance Association within three years from the date of the accident, submitting the required supporting documents.
Coverage can be received concurrently regardless of compensation from other personal insurance policies, but deaths of persons under 15 years old are excluded according to commercial law.

Mayor Lee Dong-jin stated, “This Citizen Safety Insurance enrollment was promoted to establish an institutional measure that can offer some consolation to Dobong-gu residents and their families who suffer sudden disasters or accidents,” adding, “We will continue to build a more robust social safety net for residents and do our best to create a ‘Safe and Secure City Dobong.’”
