Hwasun-gun Passes 2nd Round of Public Sports Club Competition
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do is one step closer to being selected for the public sports club contest project, which aims to foster a regional central sports club and revitalize community sports.
Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 26th that it passed the second round of presentation evaluation for the contest project held by the Korea Sports Council on the 25th.
The evaluation consisted of a document review and a presentation assessment, and the county passed the evaluation by being recognized for its excellent sports infrastructure, active sports personnel activities, and suitability of support plans.
The county is equipped with various sports facilities including the Hanium Culture and Sports Center, a complex cultural sports facility, the Lee Yong-dae Gymnasium, Hanium Boxing Gymnasium, the public stadium, and soccer fields.
In the region, there are 176 clubs across 36 sports such as badminton, soccer, table tennis, and boxing, with over 5,300 members registered with the sports council, making it an active sports city.
During the evaluation, the county emphasized its human and material infrastructure along with its strong willingness to provide support.
The county promised institutional backing for the activation of sports clubs by enacting the “Hwasun-gun Public Sports Club Activation Support Ordinance” as well as providing an annual matching project fund of 20 million KRW, totaling 100 million KRW over five years.
The Korea Sports Council will conduct an on-site inspection early next month and announce the final results.
If finally selected for the project, the county will receive a total of 600 million KRW over five years.

A county official stated, “The county plans to actively support the stable establishment of Hwasun Sports Club in cooperation and linkage with the sports council and sport-specific associations. We will thoroughly prepare for the on-site inspection and do our best until the end to be selected in the contest.”
