Buy or Rent? Interest in 'Mattress Rental' Grows
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Interest in the subscription economy is increasing, especially among the MZ generation who prioritize experiences over ownership, from music to furniture. However, many people are still unsure whether purchasing or renting is more beneficial due to long-term rental fees. Project Sleep introduces several types of mattress rentals and provides criteria for making a decision.
If you want to save on initial costs
According to the Advertising Business Outlook Index (KAI) survey released by the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation, 40.2% of respondents said they use rental services because the initial cost is low, the highest percentage. If you feel burdened by the cost of purchasing furniture, you can reduce your spending by using rental services paid monthly.
Sleep specialist brand Project Sleep offers a service where you can rent toppers for 9,900 KRW per month and mattresses for around 12,000 KRW. Rental periods can be chosen from 24 to 39 months, and ownership is automatically transferred to the consumer at the end of the rental period in this lease-to-own rental service.
If you want long-term free A/S coverage
The free A/S (after-sales service) warranty period when purchasing a mattress is usually less than one year, which is short considering that mattresses are typically used for over 10 years after a single purchase. In the case of rentals, free A/S is generally guaranteed during the rental period, allowing you to receive A/S for a longer time than when purchasing.
Project Sleep also provides free A/S during the 24 or 39-month rental period. To facilitate convenient and prompt A/S consultations, Project Sleep operates a KakaoTalk Plus Friend service.
If you have high card usage
Some companies offer rental fee discounts to customers with high card usage. If the company has partnerships with card companies, the card company covers the rental cost based on the previous month's spending, allowing customers to use rental services economically. If you meet the card usage requirements, you may even use the mattress for free depending on the discount rate.
Project Sleep offers a '0 KRW Rental' service where toppers and mattresses can be rented for '0 KRW' when paying with partner cards. Project Sleep's 0 KRW rental service is available through rental specialist BS Rental and the all-in-one lifestyle platform Ohouse.
