Kim Oh-soo: "My final duty is to work for the people like 'Nomajiji'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Kim Oh-soo, the nominee for Prosecutor General, quoted the "Noma Jiji (老馬之智, Wisdom of the Old Horse)" from the book "Han Feizi" written by Han Fei, a Legalist philosopher from China's Warring States period, saying, "I believe my final duty is to work solely for the people like an old horse."
Kim made this statement during his opening remarks at the confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly main building on the 26th.
He said, "If the previous Prosecutor General had completed his term, I, having already retired from public office, would not have stood here ahead of capable juniors. I lack both character and ability. However, someone must stabilize the prosecution organization in difficult circumstances and firmly establish the new criminal justice system that is now taking root for the people," he emphasized.
He continued, "I believe the most important duty as Prosecutor General is to successfully settle the institutional prosecution reform achieved for the first time in 70 years and to complete genuine prosecution reform desired by the people through continuous innovation in investigative practices and organizational culture by the prosecution itself."
Kim also expressed his ambition to create a trusted prosecution, a people-centered prosecution, and a fair prosecution.
He stated, "No organization can stand upright without gaining the trust of the people. The prosecution will look only to the people and pursue truth and justice solely based on law and principles without any political considerations."
He also stressed that he would ensure the new criminal justice system is firmly established and that the nation's anti-corruption capabilities are maintained. He pledged not to neglect concrete justice in individual cases and to establish fairness throughout the entire investigative process.
He added, "There is no player greater than the team. If we communicate and unite our will with the members of the prosecution as ‘One Team,’ we will surely achieve a fair prosecution trusted by the people."
