Mapo-gu, 44 Billion KRW Allocated in the 2nd Supplementary Budget for 2021
Second Round of Organization Following April, Full-Scale Resident Life Administration Focused on Overcoming COVID-19... Aiming to Revive Stagnant Local Economy, Prevent Various Disasters, and Ensure Safety
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is taking strong measures by preparing the 2nd supplementary budget proposal for 2021 to revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Events and festival-type projects that are difficult to proceed due to COVID-19 will be boldly reduced or abolished, and resources will be redistributed to projects supporting small business owners, revitalizing the local economy, and addressing the welfare needs of local residents. At the same time, thorough measures will be taken to prevent safety accidents such as flood damage.
The district has organized this supplementary budget proposal at about 44 billion KRW and submitted it to the Mapo District Council.
As a result, the total budget scale of Mapo-gu was finalized at 819.9 billion KRW (general account 724.4 billion KRW, special account 95.5 billion KRW), increasing the general account by 36.5 billion KRW and the special account by about 7.5 billion KRW.
In April, the district also organized the 1st supplementary budget of about 7 billion KRW, focusing on projects supporting small business owners and unemployed youth.
The 2nd supplementary budget proposal includes ▲ 200 million KRW for expanding the issuance of Mapo Love Gift Certificates to increase local consumption depressed by COVID-19 ▲ 174 million KRW for a small business store design improvement project using local artists to help strengthen the competitiveness of small business owners ▲ 73 million KRW for a pilot project supporting the introduction of smart technology to small business stores to enhance their self-sustainability ▲ 40 million KRW for improving the working environment of small and outdated clothing manufacturers. These efforts aim to help small business owners who are facing the greatest difficulties due to COVID-19 and to revitalize the local economy.
Additionally, to address the continuously increasing unemployment problem caused by the economic downturn, 278 million KRW has been allocated for the Seoul Citizens’ Safe Job Project and 105 million KRW for the Hope Work Support Project focused on vulnerable groups, making every effort to secure jobs within the region.
Furthermore, to actively respond to the diverse welfare needs of local residents, about 2.25 billion KRW has been allocated for the establishment and operation of the Mapo Welfare Foundation, and an additional 2.244 billion KRW has been allocated for the Basic Housing Benefit Support Project for tenants to alleviate housing cost burdens for low-income, housing-vulnerable residents, aiming to support stable housing life.
Moreover, 1.5 billion KRW has been allocated for undergrounding projects, and 1.17 billion KRW for the smooth collection and transportation of recyclables, which have rapidly increased due to COVID-19, leading efforts to create a pleasant urban environment.
Although not abundant, this 2nd supplementary budget proposal, which will be promptly executed for the residents, is expected by the district to greatly help revitalize the local economy stagnated by COVID-19, ensure safety to prevent various disasters and accidents, and address the diverse welfare needs of local residents.
