Gwangjin-gu Holds the 26th Gwangjin Residents' Day Commemoration Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) held a commemorative ceremony on the 25th at Naru Art Center to celebrate the '26th Gwangjin Residents' Day.'
Gwangjin Residents' Day was established in 1995 by ordinance to commemorate May 25th, the day Achasanseong, a representative landmark of Gwangjin-gu, was designated as Historic Site No. 234.
This commemorative ceremony was held for the first time in two years due to COVID-19, strictly adhering to social distancing to prevent the spread of local infections, including registration and temperature checks.
Also, to minimize the number of attendees, various residents from different sectors were selected and invited, including the Gwangjin Medical Association, Saemaul Leaders, Red Cross Volunteers, general volunteers, volunteer firefighters, good landlords, donors, award recipients, and their families who quietly worked hard to overcome COVID-19 and help neighbors in need.
The event duration was shortened to one hour, and a recorded video will be posted and promoted on Gwangjin-gu's official YouTube and SNS for residents who could not attend.
The 26th Gwangjin Residents' Day commemorative event began with a fusion gugak mile performance, followed by viewing a Gwangjin-gu COVID-19 response video and the reading of the Residents' Charter by a residents' representative.
Next, the Residents' Award ceremony was held, honoring three individuals and two organizations in the fields of economy, community development, service and donation, and filial piety.
Finally, the event concluded with commemorative speeches by the mayor and guests, and a sand art performance.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "Today, when we should share joy with the residents who are the protagonists, it is regrettable that great difficulties still lie ahead of us," adding, "Gwangjin-gu will continuously think deeply and move forward steadfastly for the residents."

He continued, "If there are any unreasonable matters, please criticize and suggest alternatives. I will find solutions with a heavy sense of responsibility," and said, "If we continue to gather wisdom together as we do now, the change in Gwangjin and its beautiful journey will continue."
