"Excuse me... Let's run together" Drunk police officer follows a woman he just met for about 10 minutes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] An on-duty police officer, intoxicated, chased a woman he had just met for over 10 minutes before being apprehended by the police.
On the 25th, the Incheon Western Police Station announced that they are investigating Corporal A (30), a member of the Mobile Unit of the Incheon Police Agency, on charges of violating the Minor Offenses Act.
Corporal A is accused of following a woman in her 20s, B, for more than 10 minutes on a street in Simgok-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, around 10:30 PM on the 24th, causing her distress.
At the time, he called out to B, whom he had just met, saying "Excuse me," but when she did not respond, he followed her for about 10 minutes, making remarks such as "Let's go running together," according to the investigation.
Police who arrived at the scene after a report from B's friend took Corporal A for voluntary accompaniment and investigation, then allowed him to go home for the time being. It was confirmed that B's friend reported to the police after receiving a message from B saying "A man is following me."
A police official stated, "After further investigation, Corporal A is expected to be charged with causing distress or continuous harassment under the Minor Offenses Act. Since he was intoxicated, he was sent home for now, but we plan to summon him again for questioning."
The Incheon Police Agency transferred Corporal A to the Ganghwa Police Station in Incheon this morning. The Internal Affairs Division plans to summon Corporal A to investigate the facts and, if misconduct is confirmed, refer him to the disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile, there have been a series of misconduct cases involving on-duty police officers recently.
Sergeant B, belonging to the Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency, caused controversy on the 20th around 10:30 PM in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, by approaching a high school girl he had just met while intoxicated and saying, "Let's have a drink." The officer was reportedly subjected to personnel action and referred to the disciplinary committee.
