[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 25th regarding the South Korea-U.S. summit said, "President Moon Jae-in returned with the best results from his visit to the U.S.," urging efforts to process the ratification of the Panmunjom Declaration as a follow-up measure.
Leader Song held a party meeting at the National Assembly that morning and said, "All aspects of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, including security and economy, have been significantly upgraded. Using the Panmunjom Declaration and the Singapore Declaration, we have created a breakthrough in North Korea policy through diplomatic dialogue."
He added, "In various future industries such as vaccines, semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries, 6th generation communications, and joint entry into overseas nuclear power markets, we will firmly establish ourselves as a key part of the U.S. and global partner economic alliance. This is nothing short of amazing. Our party must actively work to support this great achievement that has created an enormous South Korea-U.S. strategic partnership," he emphasized.
He continued, "I ask the lawmakers to support related standing committees so that the outcomes of this summit can lead to follow-up actions," and said, "Regarding the Panmunjom Declaration, I consulted with Minister of Unification Lee In-young, and the government is also reviewing it."
He added, "Specifically, when the government submits the ratification bill to the National Assembly, I will report to the lawmakers and strive to process it."
Yoon Ho-jung, floor leader, also said in his remarks at the party meeting that day, "Despite the short period of a 3-night, 5-day diplomatic visit to the U.S., from the moment President Moon met President Biden without wearing masks, the summit revealed how much mutual respect exists between South Korea and the U.S."
Regarding vaccines, Floor Leader Yoon said, "Japanese Prime Minister Suga only ate hamburgers but claimed to have secured 100 million doses of vaccines; however, upon verification, it was found that only about 50 million doses were contracted." He emphasized, "(President Moon) returned having established a stage where, without South Korea-U.S. vaccine cooperation, the world cannot overcome COVID-19, influenza, or any infectious disease threatening humanity without a cooperative system between South Korea and the U.S."

Regarding the opposition party's controversy over the special supply of apartments in Sejong City and the related parliamentary investigation, he pointed out, "The joint investigation headquarters is conducting a thorough investigation. It is not too late for the National Assembly to decide on a parliamentary investigation after observing the results of that investigation." Floor Leader Yoon added, "The People Power Party, like the Democratic Party, should actively cooperate with investigations into real estate speculation by all its members. The opposition party should also boldly undergo the investigation and then raise the issue of a parliamentary investigation; that is the proper course."
