Gyeongnam Province Cracks Down on 6 Cases of Undisclosed Seafood Origins... Focused Management on Japanese Seafood
6 Cases of Unlabeled Imported Seafood, Fines Totaling 518,000 KRW Imposed
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 25th that it conducted inspections on six cases of origin non-disclosure and imposed fines totaling 518,000 won.
This special inspection focused on Japanese red sea bream and scallops in relation to the Japanese government's decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from Fukushima into the ocean.
The inspection targeted 260 distribution and retail businesses registered in the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service's 'Imported Seafood Distribution Tracking System.'
They checked for violations of origin labeling such as non-disclosure of origin, improper labeling methods, and false labeling.
The province proposed that the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries reflect the improvements identified through this special inspection in the seafood origin labeling policy.
The main proposals include adding live conger eel to the list of origin-labeled items in restaurants and methods for storing imported seafood in separate aquariums.
