5743 Days Without Accidents... Fruit of Efforts to Establish Field-Centered Safety Culture

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Korea National Oil Corporation (President Yang Soo-young) Seosan Oil Stockpile Base has set a record of zero industrial accidents since the launch of the 'Zero Accident Movement.'
The Oil Corporation announced on the 24th that since the start of the Zero Accident Movement on August 11, 2005, it has operated the base for 16 years (5,743 days) until May 1 of this year, achieving 13 times the zero-accident target without a single industrial accident.
The Seosan Stockpile Base is a facility with aboveground tanks capable of storing 11 million barrels of crude oil and 3.7 million barrels of petroleum products.
Based on the Process Safety Management system (PSM) and Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Systems (KOSHA MS, ISO 14001), the base has conducted pre-work meetings (TBT) and risk assessments to identify risk factors in advance, striving to establish a field-centered safety culture.
The base shares the status of risk factor detection and elimination with all employees to raise safety awareness and has strengthened cooperation in accident prevention by conducting joint disaster response drills with related organizations.
A representative of the Seosan Stockpile Base stated, “We will continue to make greater efforts in zero-accident and zero-incident management operations at the stockpile base through securing energy security via oil stockpiling and meticulous safety management.”
The Oil Corporation was recognized for maintaining the national core infrastructure function in the oil stockpiling sector and excellence in accident prevention, receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation in the 2020 National Core Infrastructure Disaster Management Evaluation.

Additionally, by conducting various emergency response joint drills and strengthening safety work permit guidelines, the corporation achieved the highest grade, A, in the 2020 Public Institution Safety Activity Level Evaluation, promoting accident prevention activities under the principle of safety-first management.
