Kia Suspends Operations Again at U.S. Georgia Plant Following April Shutdown
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] As the shortage of automotive semiconductors reaches its peak, Kia will halt operations at its Georgia plant in the United States for two days.
According to Kia on the 24th, the Kia Georgia plant will suspend operations on the 27th and 28th of this month (local time).
Previously, Kia also stopped production on the 8th and 9th of last month to respond to the semiconductor shortage and stabilize the supply chain.
Opened in 2009, the Georgia Kia plant is a complete vehicle production facility with an integrated production system including press, body, painting, and assembly, located on a 2,612,000㎡ site.
Currently, the Georgia plant produces models such as the K5, Sorento, and Telluride, and surpassed a cumulative production volume of 3 million units in 2019.

Hyundai Motor Company, part of the same group, also halted production at its Asan plant, which manufactures the Sonata and Grandeur, from today until the 26th.
