There are claims that the owner took no action even after witnessing the dogs harming the cat, sparking public outrage online.
According to Daegu Seongseo Police Station on the 23rd, two medium-sized dogs bit and killed a cat on the afternoon of the 19th on a street in Sindang-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu.
At the time, the dogs were not wearing muzzles, and although they had leashes, the owner was not holding them, so they were effectively walking freely without any control.
According to a post on the local information-sharing Facebook page 'Real-time Daegu' on the 22nd, the owner reportedly neglected the dogs even as they were biting the cat.
The author of the post expressed outrage, saying, "The owner neglected the two companion dogs while they were biting and shaking the cat violently, throwing it on the ground." They also explained, "The cat ultimately died at the scene, and the owner ignored witnesses calling out and fled the scene, leading to a report being filed."
According to the author, the owner had previously caused similar incidents and had been warned multiple times by residents. The author claimed, "(Considering this) this incident is not a simple accident but an animal abuse death caused by the owner's implied intent."
Comments on the post included eyewitness accounts from citizens stating that the dogs usually did not wear leashes. Comments included, "They usually don’t wear leashes, so I wondered 'What is the owner doing?' but eventually something happened." and "They have leashes but don’t use them, just dragging them on the ground."
Meanwhile, the deceased cat was reportedly cared for by 'Jeomteonyangi,' a local small business owners' group. The cat, called 'Noraengi,' was a beloved cat in the neighborhood, adding to the sadness. It is especially enraging to netizens that the cat was attacked while recovering its health through surgery and rehabilitation.
