Rollable Next is Slidable?… Samsung Files Trademark for 'Z Slide'
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics, which is leading the foldable smartphone market, has filed a trademark for a new Z series called ‘Z Slide’ in Europe, following the horizontally unfolding ‘Samsung Z Roll’.
On the 22nd (local time), IT specialized media LetsGoDigital reported that Samsung Electronics registered the ‘Z Slide’ trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on the 21st.
The trademark is classified under Class 9, which includes smartphones, tablet PCs, and communication devices, similar to the previously reported rollable smartphone Z Roll, suggesting it is related to Samsung Electronics’ new rollable phone patent. LetsGoDigital predicted that Z Roll refers to a rollable device, and Z Slide is likely a slide-type smartphone equipped with a rollable display.
Another speculation is that Z Roll features a horizontally expandable display, while Z Slide offers a vertically expandable rollable display. Although still at the speculation stage, LetsGoDigital expects that Z Roll and Z Slide are different products, considering that unlike LG Electronics, Samsung has not filed multiple trademarks for a single product so far.
