Monthly activity allowance of 1 million KRW and average 3 million KRW research/project funding for selected young artists
Customized growth programs and workshops by district, providing young artists with opportunities to enter the local art ecosystem
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture are publicly recruiting 50 young artists to work in 10 autonomous districts through the urban culture lab (LAB) IN&OUT from the 24th to June 11th. The total support budget is 572.3 million KRW.
This project provides an opportunity for young artists to not only build professional capabilities as artists by proactively executing various art projects in collaboration with district cultural foundations but also to attempt art activities connected with fellow artists, residents, and places, thereby enabling stable entry into the local community. To this end, cooperation was established with cultural foundations of 10 districts?Gangbuk, Gwanak, Gwangjin, Dongdaemun, Dongjak, Seongbuk, Yangcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Eunpyeong, and Jung-gu?to thoroughly explore and research local resources.
The application process and local linkage projects can be found in actual cases on the archive page of the ‘Local-linked Youth Art Activity Support Project 0(Young) Artist, 15 Seouls’ conducted by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture in 2020.
The application fields are divided into ‘IN: In the Region’ for young artists under 39 years old and ‘OUT: Outside School/Genre’ for young artists under 29 years old including art university students. The current recruitment is for ‘IN: In the Region.’ The ‘OUT: Outside School/Genre’ recruitment is scheduled for around July.
‘IN: In the Region’ is open to any young artist under 39 years old who has the will to conduct creative research and cultural art project activities linked to the region. After review by each district cultural foundation, the finally selected young artists will receive individual activity expenses (1 million KRW per month) and research/project execution expenses (approximately 1.5 million to 5 million KRW per person) for a total of five months from July to November.
There are no restrictions on application based on residence or activity district, and young artists residing or active in any of the 25 districts of Seoul, beyond the 10 cooperating districts, are eligible to apply.
Selected artists can participate in growth support programs planned by each district cultural foundation, including ‘portfolio production,’ ‘idea pitching day and professional review programs.’ Depending on the region, various local linkage research and projects will be conducted, such as cultural art research/projects centered on Neungdong-ro in the east, west, south, and north areas including Achasan, Children’s Grand Park, and Hangang Ttukseom Park (Gwangjin-gu), and art x technology fusion future city exploration and creation projects (Jung-gu).
The application period is from the 24th to June 11th at 6 p.m. The start date for applications, support contents, eligibility, and detailed information vary by region and can be checked on the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture website and each district cultural foundation’s website.
