Gwangju Hanguk Woorimil Nonghyup and Sunuri Food Sign Agreement for Supplying Domestic Wheat Raw Materials
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that the Korea Woori Wheat Agricultural Cooperative, a domestic wheat producer organization in the region, signed a domestic wheat raw wheat supply business agreement on the 20th with Agricultural Corporation Soonwoori Food located in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do (hereinafter Soonwoori Food).
Korea Woori Wheat Agricultural Cooperative, the only domestic wheat producer organization affiliated with the Nonghyup, will supply Soonwoori Food with approximately 3,000 tons of raw wheat annually through this domestic wheat supply business agreement.
As of last year, Korea Woori Wheat Agricultural Cooperative purchased 1,800 tons of wheat produced in Gwangju City, and this year, it aims to significantly increase the purchase volume to 4,200 tons.
Gwangju City establishes a "Mid- to Long-term Plan for Woori Wheat Promotion" every five years according to the "Ordinance on the Promotion of Woori Wheat," supporting technology development and dissemination, efficiency in storage, processing, and distribution, specialization and securing sales channels, and consumption promotion.
Through this, it plans to realize a wheat self-sufficiency rate of 5%, expand production area to 3,000 hectares, and increase production volume to 12,000 tons by 2025.

Kim Hyun-jung, Director of the Life Agriculture Division of the city, said, "Through this business agreement, by securing large-scale sales channels for Woori wheat, it is expected to increase the income of wheat-producing farmers and contribute to improving the wheat food self-sufficiency rate," adding, "We will continue to do our best to achieve a 5% wheat food self-sufficiency rate by expanding Woori wheat cultivation through various support projects."
