This public hearing will be held online in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. Interested citizens can watch the live broadcast of the hearing via online platforms (YouTube) and freely express their opinions.
The "National Core Transportation Network Plan" is the highest-level statutory plan in the transportation sector, established to set the future direction of national transportation. The "2nd National Core Transportation Network Plan (draft)" being prepared this time is the second plan since the first plan was established in 2000.
Since November 2018, the Ministry and the Institute have conducted foundational research analyzing the current status of transportation investments in Korea, transportation demand and importance, and future environmental changes to prepare for this plan. From June last year, the Institute has been conducting the research project in earnest.
The Institute prepared this draft plan through a public perception survey on transportation investments, monthly regular transportation symposiums involving experts from industry, academia, and research, as well as advisory meetings.
The "1st National Core Transportation Network Plan" focused on strengthening national competitiveness through efficient investment in transportation facilities. The "2nd National Core Transportation Network Plan," based on the transportation network established during the first plan period, emphasizes establishing a balanced transportation policy in preparation for a future where eco-friendly and advanced mobility become commonplace, ensuring equal mobility rights without discrimination, and realizing safe and sustainable mobility.
At the public hearing, the Institute plans to present the basic directions of national transportation policy for the next 20 years and announce detailed implementation tasks to achieve five major policy objectives: △ completing transportation networks for balanced national development, △ creating a public transportation environment accessible anytime and anywhere, △ normalizing eco-friendly advanced mobility, △ realizing a safe and non-discriminatory transportation society, and △ establishing a foundation for a global transportation community. Additionally, related experts will participate in the hearing to provide diverse opinions related to the presentations.
