Gangbuk-gu, Free Installation of Flood Prevention Facilities for Underground Housing
Support for Backflow Preventers and Water Barriers to Prepare for Heavy Rain During the Monsoon Season... Applications Available at Local Resident Centers in Residential Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Gyeom-su) has launched a free installation service for flood prevention facilities in preparation for heavy summer rains.
The support targets underground houses where there is concern about sewage backflow or rainwater inflow. Backflow preventers are attached to prevent reverse flow when the sewage pipe water level rises in bathrooms, kitchens, and yard drains. Water barrier panels are placed at underground entrance thresholds or windows lower than public roads. The water barrier panels are detachable, operable devices made of stainless steel or aluminum, 40cm in height.
Applications can be submitted by filling out forms available at the local community service centers of the residential area by October this year. After on-site inspection, the district will install appropriate flood prevention facilities for each household. To prevent damage during this year's and next year's monsoon seasons, a plan was established in March to support 2,400 backflow preventers and 1,600 water barrier panels.
Household heads or building owners are responsible for maintenance. The facility installation is free, but repair costs must be borne by the user. For further inquiries, contact the Safety and Water Management Division of Gangbuk-gu Office.
