Lotte GRS Introduces 'Drinking Lid' at Lotteria
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Lotte GRS will introduce the ‘Drinking Lid,’ which allows drinking without a straw and was first introduced in Korea in 2018 at the coffee specialty brand Angel-in-us to reduce disposable products, at 100 directly operated Lotteria stores.
Lotte GRS has been continuously implementing policies to reduce disposable products, such as providing plastic straws only to customers who need them and encouraging the use of reusable cups for in-store customers, following the extension of a voluntary agreement led by the Ministry of Environment last November due to increased use of disposable products caused by COVID-19.
Accordingly, the introduction of the drinking lid, which allows drinking without a straw, is part of the ESG management plan for environmental protection and reduction of disposable products. It will be proactively introduced in directly operated stores, with plans to consider its introduction in franchise stores in the future.

The annual straw consumption at Lotteria is about 77 tons. With the introduction and operation targeting directly operated stores, it is expected to reduce straw usage by about 3 tons. If introduced nationwide at all Lotteria stores, it is expected to reduce straw consumption by approximately 20 tons.
