Seoul District Mayors Visit Democratic Party to Urge Deregulation on Reconstruction and More
Gangnam, Songpa, and 7 District Mayors
"Reconstruction Safety Inspection Standards Must Be Relaxed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Seoul district mayors affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea visited the Democratic Party's Real Estate Special Committee on the 17th to appeal for deregulation, including reconstruction.
Mayors of seven districts?Gangnam, Songpa, Gangdong, Yangcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Nowon, and Eunpyeong?attended a policy issue meeting held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building and conveyed these opinions. All these areas have high demand for reconstruction and have seen significant increases in apartment prices.
Yangcheon District Mayor Kim Sooyoung said to reporters after the meeting, "This was an occasion for Seoul district mayors to convey opinions on reconstruction issues, public development around station areas, easing of property tax and comprehensive real estate tax, and local public sentiment."
Regarding the comprehensive real estate tax and property tax, he said, "Prices have risen considerably and the number of taxpayers has increased, causing dissatisfaction and division among public sentiment, which is worrisome. They requested that tax policies be decided quickly."
Mayor Kim added, "We conveyed to the special committee the opinion that the standards for reconstruction safety inspections should be relaxed. There are many apartment complexes facing difficulties in residential environments, leading to complaints from local residents. From the perspective of rising real estate prices, we boldly conveyed local public sentiment and voices from the field."
