White House: "Ensuring Press Safety Is Important" After Israeli Military Bombs Foreign Media Building
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] On the 15th (local time), the White House demanded that Israel ensure the safety of the press in relation to the Israeli military bombing foreign media-occupied buildings, including the AP News office, in the Gaza Strip.
According to AP News and others, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Twitter that day, "We have directly conveyed to the Israelis that ensuring the safety and security of journalists and independent media is the highest responsibility."
The Hill, a political news outlet, reported that it is not precisely confirmed who and how the U.S. message was delivered to the Israeli side.
Since the 10th, large-scale armed clashes have continued between the Israeli military and the Gaza Strip armed faction Hamas, and on this day, the Israeli military bombed the 'Jala Tower' in Gaza, where foreign media offices are located.
The Jala Tower, destroyed by the airstrike, is a 12-story building used as local offices by many foreign media outlets, including AP News and Qatar's state broadcaster Al Jazeera.
