The meeting was held to seek countermeasures following Changwon City's request for the extension of the Special Industrial Crisis Response Area designation at the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongnam Provincial Party's current issues meeting held on the 3rd.
The meeting was attended by Kim Jeong-ho, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongnam Provincial Party, Kim Kyung-soo, governor of Gyeongnam Province, Ahn Kyung-won, 1st Vice Mayor of Changwon City, Byun Gwang-yong, mayor of Geoje, Kang Seok-ju, mayor of Tongyeong, and Baek Doo-hyun, county head of Goseong.
They shared the local economic situation and agreed on the necessity of extending the Special Industrial Crisis Response Area designation.
Accordingly, they adopted a government appeal and requested the government to extend the designation of the 'Special Industrial Crisis Response Area,' which is set to expire on the 28th of this month.
Although the global shipbuilding market has recovered and domestic large shipbuilders swept half of the world's ship orders in the first quarter of this year, it remains difficult for this to translate into a tangible economic recovery.

In particular, due to the impact of COVID-19 last year, the local economy has fallen into recession, prompting demands for the extension of the Special Industrial Crisis Response Area designation.
