Mokpo National University Selected for Two Projects in Jeonnam Province University-Region Linkage and Cooperation Support Program
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 13th that two projects were finally selected for the ‘2021 University-Region Linkage and Cooperation Support Project’ supported by Jeollanam-do on the 12th.
The ‘University-Region Linkage and Cooperation Support Project’ is a program that supports various regional linkage cooperation programs of universities until December by utilizing the core competencies such as human and material infrastructure possessed by regional universities so that the region and universities can coexist.
For this project, Jeollanam-do accepted applications divided into three fields: Understanding the Region, Visiting Creative Education, and Region-Based Education. Mokpo National University was selected in the Understanding the Region field with ‘Namdo Art Road (Department of Fine Arts)’ and in the Region-Based Education field with ‘Development and Operation of Convergence Curriculum Based on Ecology, Culture, and Policy of Jeonnam Islands (Institute of Island Culture).’
‘Namdo Art Road’ is operated as a Namdo art travel experience camp under government COVID-19 prevention guidelines for students from other cities and provinces studying at universities in Jeonnam and international students. The camp aims to discover the traditional values of Namdo and help participants understand Namdo’s identity. The camp consists of tours of art museums and exhibition halls to appreciate representative artworks of Namdo, ranging from traditional art (ink wash painting, folk painting) to contemporary art.
Additionally, the ‘Development and Operation of Convergence Curriculum Based on Ecology, Culture, and Policy of Jeonnam Islands’ is centered on the faculty of the Institute of Island Culture, which will open a course titled ‘Understanding the Humanities Landscape and Sustainability of Islands.’ Mokpo National University students will develop and operate a convergence curriculum that integrates culture, ecology, and policy to foster future experts in island and marine fields through a comprehensive understanding of islands and the sea.
In particular, the course will be team-taught by four professors according to the convergence textbook developed by the faculty, and will also include invited lectures by island experts and a UCC production presentation.
The two selected projects will be operated with budget support from Jeollanam-do, providing domestic and international students with opportunities to broadly understand Namdo culture. They are expected to become a model for creating results based on cooperation between universities and regions through education programs that nurture local talent and solve regional coexistence issues.
