Gwangju University Establishes Cooperation System for Large-Scale Disaster Preparedness in the Power Sector
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 12th that it signed an industry-academia-research cooperation agreement with the Korea Disaster Safety Technology Institute Foundation and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters of Korea Electric Power Corporation at the Administrative Building's Education Innovation Support Office to prepare for large-scale disasters in the power sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by Gwangju University President Kim Hyuk-jong, Korea Disaster Safety Technology Institute Director Jeong Sang-man, Korea Electric Power Corporation Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters Director Kim Sang-kwon, and officials from each organization.
Through this agreement, the organizations agreed to exchange safety policies and technologies for disaster response in the power sector and jointly develop and operate programs to nurture outstanding talents in disaster safety.
They also decided to form a consultative body for expert advice on on-site action manuals and simulation training scenarios, as well as for the development of new technologies for disaster response and mitigation.
Jeong Sang-man, Director of the Korea Disaster Safety Technology Institute, stated, “Currently, disaster safety issues are focused more on post-disaster recovery than on preparedness. However, prevention and preparedness are the most important. Establishing a cooperative system in this field is very meaningful.”
Kim Sang-kwon, Director of the Korea Electric Power Corporation Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters, said, “Since KEPCO handles power facilities, there are vulnerabilities in safety and disaster aspects. Through this agreement, we will cooperate mutually to prepare for disaster safety.”
