Government: "Expanding Korea-AIIB Collaboration... Efforts to Involve Domestic Companies in Contracts"
Ministry of Economy and Finance-AIIB Joint Meeting Held
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] On the 11th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance jointly held the '2021 AIIB Project Participation Activation Meeting' with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) via video conference and decided to promote policy support to expand future collaboration opportunities. In addition, it plans to actively support domestic companies' participation and contract activities in AIIB projects.
The meeting introduced the latest trends in AIIB projects and was an international conference to support securing opportunities for Korean companies to participate in AIIB projects. It shared AIIB investment policies and project trends, experiences of Korean companies participating in AIIB projects, and reaffirmed the commitment to cooperate in discovering new AIIB projects. More than 20 institutions, including Lee Dong-ik, Director of AIIB Investment Department Financial Bureau, Kim Tae-su, Vice President of Export-Import Bank of Korea's Economic Cooperation Headquarters, as well as major overseas infrastructure-related construction companies, trading companies, engineering firms, public enterprises, and associations, participated online.

In his opening remarks, Lee Jong-hwa, Director of the Development Finance Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, emphasized, "The AIIB investment project portfolio is diversifying and expanding in scale from initially focusing on government guarantees and syndicated loans to non-government guarantees, standalone loans, and equity investments." He added, "AIIB has abundant financial capacity and can respond swiftly to changes in the investment environment through efficient organizational management, making it suitable for our companies to consider as a business cooperation partner." He continued, "The government will strive to provide more opportunities for our companies to participate in AIIB projects."
