Electric Kickboards Require License Starting from the 13th... 100,000 Won Fine for Unlicensed Use
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Starting from the 13th, a fine will be imposed for driving personal mobility devices (PM), such as electric kickboards, without a license.
According to the National Police Agency on the 10th, the revised Road Traffic Act containing these provisions will be enforced from the 13th. Accordingly, from now on, only holders of a driver's license of "Class 2 Motorized Bicycle License" or higher, which can be obtained from age 16, will be allowed to operate electric kickboards. Currently, anyone aged 13 or older can use electric kickboards without a driver's license.
Driving without a license will result in a fine of 100,000 KRW. A fine of 20,000 KRW will be imposed for driving without wearing a helmet. The fine for driving an electric kickboard under the influence of alcohol will be increased from 30,000 KRW to 100,000 KRW. Refusal to undergo a breathalyzer test will increase the fine from 100,000 KRW to 130,000 KRW. Guardians who fail to prevent children from operating electric kickboards will be fined 100,000 KRW.
