Opening of the World Human Rights Archives Traveling Exhibition in Daegu
10th Anniversary of the 5·18 Records' Inscription as UNESCO Memory of the World
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the May 18 Democratic Uprising records as a UNESCO Memory of the World, the "World Human Rights Records Traveling Exhibition" opened on the 10th at Kyungpook National University in Daegu.
Hosted by the Gwangju Metropolitan City May 18 Democratic Uprising Records Hall and sponsored by the Kyungpook National University University Archives, this World Human Rights Records Traveling Exhibition was held under the theme "Human Rights - Universal Values, Cultural Memory."
To raise awareness of the importance of human rights shared globally beyond regional and political boundaries, the exhibition highlights records from 12 countries inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World, showcasing memories of those who fought against inhumane oppression and their governments.
At the opening ceremony, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin attended, along with Julian Canessa, Charg? d'Affaires of the Argentine Embassy in Korea, representing Argentina, a country with a painful modern history similar to the May 18 Democratic Uprising.
The exhibition will be held at Kyungpook National University in Daegu until July 4, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is free for all visitors. For inquiries about the exhibition, please contact the Kyungpook National University University Archives.

Jung Yong-hwa, director of the May 18 Democratic Uprising Records Hall, said, "Starting with this traveling exhibition, we plan to create a platform that breaks down regional boundaries," and added, "We ask for the many visits from Daegu citizens, residents of Gyeongbuk Province, and the public."
