Ministry of Industry Hosts Hackathon... "Rapid Medical Image Analysis with AI"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 9th that it will hold a 'Medical Big Data Utilization Artificial Intelligence (AI) Image Diagnosis Development Hackathon' in collaboration with the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) and others.
A hackathon is a competition where participants such as planners, developers, and designers form teams within a limited time to generate ideas and complete applications, web services, or business models based on them. This event was organized to expand the base of AI technology development using medical imaging data through the participation of various companies and researchers.
Since last year, the Ministry has been promoting a research and development (R&D) project to develop medical devices equipped with AI-based image analysis technology. In the medical imaging field, AI performs preliminary readings and medical staff supplement and verify them, enabling more accurate diagnoses, which has led to active adoption of AI technology.
KTL, the project’s lead organization, has secured datasets of medical images for 15 diseases, totaling about 50,000 images as of last month. It plans to build datasets for 21 diseases and 300,000 images by 2024. KTL, together with the Korean Society of Medical Imaging Informatics, a co-host of the hackathon, will open its high-quality medical imaging datasets exclusively to participants during the competition period.
Applications for participation will be accepted from the 10th to the 31st, and any interested companies or individuals can apply through the KTL website.
