Since last year, the district has canceled the annual senior invitation events due to COVID-19, and this year plans to hold various non-face-to-face events at local senior welfare centers, such as sharing touching letters and postcards received from children.
In addition, the district intends to express gratitude to about 1,000 elderly households by delivering 10 KF masks, nutrition boxes, carnations, congratulatory cards, and more.
The first senior visited, Mr. Lee (80, resident of Geumho 2·3-ga-dong), said, “Friends in the neighborhood who received the vaccine shots at the vaccination center all praised the vaccine,” and added, “The redevelopment area of the Geumho-dong hillside village has developed so much; please continue to work hard for our district administration.”
Also, Ms. Kim (89, resident of Geumho 2·3-ga-dong) tearfully said, “My son is hospitalized due to illness and has difficulty moving, so I have no outdoor activities, but I am very grateful that you came to check on me in person.” She also said, “A caregiver visits daily to take care of various things attentively, so I do not feel lonely.”
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Since the seniors have lived diligently all their lives, now it is the country’s responsibility, not their children’s, to take care of them,” and urged, “I hope you will fully enjoy various systems and focus more on your health management.”
The district supports an AI speaker capable of emergency SOS calls by voice alone and an IoT project based on the Internet of Things to monitor real-time safety for elderly living alone in the area.
