Chungnam, Boryeong Provincial Forest to Develop 'Region-Specific Forest'... 120,000 Trees Planted
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The creation of a region-specific forest was completed by planting 120,000 trees in the Boryeong provincial forest.
The Chungnam Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute announced on the 6th that it has completed the creation of a 50-hectare region-specific premium forest within the Boryeong provincial forest.
Earlier, the Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute planned to create forests under four themes to support beekeepers facing difficulties due to a decrease in nectar sources this year: a ‘nectar forest’ to aid beekeepers, a ‘Hinoki cypress forest’ with timber production and forest recreation functions, a ‘Hovenia forest’ that serves as both a nectar source and medicinal use, and a ‘region-specific forest’ to help revitalize the local economy through flower festivals and more.
The Boryeong provincial forest was developed as a region-specific forest by planting 120,000 trees centered on economic species such as Robinia pseudoacacia, Hinoki cypress, and Hovenia dulcis, as well as region-specific species like Cornus officinalis, Cornus kousa, and Crataegus pinnatifida.
The afforestation sites in the provincial forest are characterized by assigning specific functions to each tree species. The Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute plans to manage and develop this afforestation site into a premium forest representing the region through future performance analysis.

Seo Do-won, director of the Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute, said, “Creating premium forests by theme will play a positive role in increasing beekeepers’ income and revitalizing the local economy in the future,” adding, “We will manage the Boryeong provincial forest case as a model and actively promote it to cities and counties within the province.”
