[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Recently, with daytime high temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius, sales of summer products such as ice cream and cup ice have increased at convenience stores.
Seven Eleven announced on the 6th that an analysis of major product sales from the 20th of last month to the 5th of this month, about two weeks, showed that summer key products such as ice cream, cup ice, and beer all experienced double-digit sales growth compared to the previous month. Ice cream sales rose by 25.9%, cup ice by 62.2%, and Seven Eleven’s coffee brand Seven Cafe ICE grew by 35.9%. Sales of beer (13.8%), sports drinks (21.2%), and pouch drinks (67.2%) also increased significantly.
Accordingly, Seven Eleven announced it will hold discount events on summer products to welcome the summer season in earnest. Until the end of this month, a 30% discount is offered when paying with Naver Pay on about 90 types of ice cream including Screw Bar, Pig Bar, and World Cone. These products are also part of promotional events (1+1, 2+1, etc.), so when combined with overlapping discounts, the maximum discount rate reaches 65%. For example, if you purchase two of the 1+1 promotional product 'Brown Sugar Bubble Milk Tea Cone (3,000 KRW each)' and receive the maximum discount, the final purchase price is 2,100 KRW (regular price 6,000 KRW).
For 10 popular ice cream types such as Choco Fudge, Candy Bar, and Walnut Maru sold at 1,000 KRW each, a 65% discount is provided when purchasing 10 or more regardless of payment method. These products can be combined with the Naver Pay 30% discount event, allowing purchase of 10 pieces for 2,450 KRW. The price per piece is 245 KRW, which is about a 75% discount.
In addition, discount events are prepared for other major summer products. Under the concept of a solo drinking festival, until the end of this month, a 10% discount is offered when paying with Lotte Card or BC Card on 6 types of beer, 4 types of soju, and 10 types of snacks including sausages, hot bars, and crackers. A carbonated weekend event is held, offering a 30% discount on 9 types of carbonated and sports drinks every Friday through Sunday when paying with NH Nonghyup Card.
Lim Ji-hyun, Senior MD in charge of ice cream at Seven Eleven, said, "This event was planned to reduce consumer burden ahead of the summer peak season when ice cream demand rapidly increases." She added, "Since this summer is expected to be hotter than usual, we will continue to introduce customer events featuring various products and price benefits."
