"You Don't Have to Live Like Everyone Else"... A Brain Tumor Dad's Message to His 'Unborn Daughter'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] A story about a man in Australia who, sensing his death while battling cancer, left a letter to his daughter who was to be born four weeks later has touched many hearts.
On the 4th, local Australian media reported that Scott Ferguson (33), who lived in Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia, left a message in the form of a video and letter to his unborn daughter before passing away on March 31. His daughter was born on April 27, just four weeks after he passed, evoking deep sorrow.
Scott was diagnosed with a brain tumor after collapsing at a shopping center in early 2018 and being taken to the hospital. He received the shocking news from his attending physician that he had stage 4 glioblastoma, the most difficult brain tumor to treat, and that he only had a few years left to live.
Afterward, Scott continuously underwent chemotherapy and married his then-girlfriend Jamie in 2019. They prepared their home and even tried in vitro fertilization to have a child. However, sensing his condition was rapidly worsening and that his days were numbered, he decided to leave a letter for his daughter, Isla.
Scott’s letter was filled with affection for his unborn daughter. He wrote, "Your mother and father will always be proud of you and think of you every day," and "When you get married, I will be watching you and walking with you down the aisle. If you smile once every day, everything will be fine." He also added heartfelt advice to his daughter, saying, "Grow up dreaming. You don’t have to live exactly like everyone else."
