Next Year’s Speculation on Running for Gyeonggi-do Superintendent of Education Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Ahn Byeong-yong, the three-term mayor of Uijeongbu, resigned from the Democratic Party of Korea on the 4th.
Amid ongoing speculation that Mayor Ahn will run in the Gyeonggi-do Superintendent of Education election scheduled for June next year, he submitted his resignation from the party on this day.
As a three-term mayor, Ahn can no longer run for local government head elections, and to run for the Superintendent of Education election, he must have no party affiliation for at least one year before the candidate registration date.
Ahn, a former university professor, is evaluated as an expert in the education field with diverse experience.

Mayor Ahn was elected as the mayor of Uijeongbu in the 5th local elections in 2010 while serving as a professor in the Department of Public Administration at Shinhan University, and he successfully secured three consecutive terms.
