Condolences for Son Jeong-min via SNS
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed his condolences regarding the case of Son Jeong-min (22), who went missing at Banpo Hangang Park and was found dead after six days. He announced plans to establish a standard model for ‘Smart Poles’?which integrate CCTV, traffic lights, street lamps, security lights, and other devices?and implement it in May.
On the 3rd, Mayor Oh shared on his Facebook, "We all hoped he would return as if nothing had happened. Everyone wishes to at least understand how the situation reached this point," conveying this plan. He added, "I was informed that there are 1,320 CCTVs along the Han River, including 505 managed by the Han River Project Headquarters and 815 managed by private facilities. However, only 163 CCTVs are installed within the Hangang Park area, which is a painful issue for me as someone responsible for citizens' safety."
Seoul City plans to prepare and immediately implement a ‘Smart Pole’ standard model in May to enhance safety. Mayor Oh stated, "Because road facilities, CCTVs, and smart devices have been installed individually, there are 240,000 road facilities scattered around, with 4,000 replaced annually, increasing operational costs and making it difficult to increase the number of CCTVs. We will build a new system aligned with the evolution of smart cities to create a safer and more efficient city for citizens," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Son, who went missing on April 24 while drinking with an acquaintance at Banpo Hangang Park, was found dead underwater in the Han River on the afternoon of the 30th, six days later. Mayor Oh said, "I read the post written by Son’s father on his blog," and expressed, "I sincerely offer my condolences for the sorrow that has befallen this once harmonious family."
