Yujinseop, Jeongeup Mayor, Takes Aggressive Steps to Secure National and Provincial Budget
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Yoo Jin-seop, mayor of Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk, is showing a "broad-spectrum approach" by going back and forth between Jeonbuk Province, the National Assembly, and central government agencies to secure national and provincial funding for 2022.
According to Jeongeup City on the 3rd, Mayor Yoo held a meeting with Governor Song Ha-jin on the 30th of last month and actively requested provincial funding support and special adjustment grants necessary for promoting Jeongeup's pending projects.
He also explained the necessity of Jeongeup City's proposed projects for the 20th presidential election pledges and requested active interest and cooperation to ensure that the projects proposed by Jeongeup City are reflected.
Regarding provincial funding support projects, Mayor Yoo explained the justification and validity of establishing a Digital Media Art Center, which will serve as a hub for local culture, and requested 3 billion KRW in provincial funding support.
Mayor Yoo emphasized, "The Digital Media Art Center is an essential project to secure regional growth engines through fostering a leading immersive content industry and to create jobs and revitalize the local economy by linking cultural, tourism, and leisure resources."
Regarding special adjustment grant support, he requested 2 billion KRW to successfully host the 2023 Jeonbuk Asia-Pacific Masters Games and to alleviate urban traffic congestion through expanding and maintaining roads and other infrastructure.
He also requested 1 billion KRW in support for the welfare center expansion project to improve convenience for senior citizens using the welfare center.
In particular, Mayor Yoo actively proposed that regional long-standing projects and long-term pending projects be reflected as presidential pledge projects in relation to the 20th presidential election, which is one year away.
The main contents included proposing the establishment of infrastructure for fostering the healthcare industry and the creation of the Jeonbuk Advanced Medical Complex to serve as a national bio-industry hub.
He also requested that the "Smart Green Industrial Complex" project, a core project of the Korean-style Green New Deal comprehensive plan for promoting the smart green industrial complex and the clustering of renewable energy, be included as a presidential pledge project.
Along with this, he proposed the construction of the Saemangeum-Jeongeup-Jirisan Expressway to resolve the imbalance in the eastern inland area of Jeonbuk through the Saemangeum hub expressway construction and to build tourism infrastructure in Jeongeup, Namwon, Sunchang, and Buan.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "To promote regional development and resolve pending projects, I plan to continuously visit not only Jeonbuk Province but also the National Assembly and central government agencies," adding, "In particular, I will actively explain the citizens' wishes and justifications to ensure that all projects proposed as presidential pledge projects are reflected."
