Hampyeong Livestock Market Records Highest Auction Performance in Jeonnam Province
Thorough Quarantine, Provision of Latest Facilities and Convenience to Promote Transactions
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Among the 15 livestock markets in Jeonnam Province last year, the most active auction was held at the Hampyeong Livestock Market.
The proactive and thorough quarantine management by the county to prevent the outbreak and spread of COVID-19, along with the transformation into a modern market equipped with the latest facilities such as an automated base disinfection facility and an electronic auction system since 2017, is evaluated to have led to active market transactions.
According to the county on the 3rd, a total of 10,114 Korean cattle (Hanwoo) were traded at the Hampyeong Livestock Market last year, generating income of 500 million KRW in livestock auction fees for the Hampyeong Livestock Cooperative.
In particular, despite the adverse effects of COVID-19, from April 2017, the first year after reopening, until 2020, a total of 48,905 heads were traded over about four years, with a winning bid price of 215.1 billion KRW, greatly contributing to income generation for Hanwoo farmers.
A county official stated, “To prevent COVID-19 and livestock infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, we will strictly disinfect facilities and vehicles before and after the opening of the livestock market and comply with quarantine rules such as wearing masks. We will concentrate all our capabilities to help Hampyeong’s livestock auction market grow into the best livestock market nationwide, contributing to increased farm income and regional economic development.”
