Dosan Fire Prevention Headquarters Extended Operation Until the End of May
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongsangnam-do Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters anticipates a high risk of wildfires due to the increase in hikers on weekends and holidays in May, and has established the 'Post-May Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures' to fully respond to wildfire prevention and suppression.
Most of the 33 wildfires that occurred from May to October over the past five years were caused by arson by hikers and burning activities near forest-adjacent areas.
The province plans to extend the operation of the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters from the 16th, when the first half wildfire caution period ends, until the end of this month, maintaining an emergency duty system.
As the contract periods for seven leased wildfire suppression helicopters and about 3,000 wildfire prevention personnel end sequentially after the wildfire caution period, the province intends to utilize available personnel to the maximum and respond swiftly to wildfire suppression.
