The Most Preferred Mother's Day Gift is 'Cash'... 78% Say They Will "Deliver It Personally"
Tmon, Survey Results from 700 Customers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] More than six out of ten online shoppers prefer 'cash' as a gift for Parents' Day.
Tmon announced on the 3rd that a survey conducted over four days starting from the 27th with 700 customers showed that the number one gift people want to give on Parents' Day was cash (64%). This was followed by health supplements such as red ginseng (14%), fashion items (7%), and health appliances (5%).
In particular, 60% also chose cash as the gift they want to receive, showing the highest preference.
However, there were generational differences. The 10-20 age group preferred gifts they picked themselves, while the 30-50 age group chose cash. Looking at the age groups, cash was most preferred by those in their 50s at 69%, followed by 68% in their 40s and 63% in their 30s. On the other hand, the 10-20 age group showed about 60% preference for gifts they chose themselves, such as health supplements, which was 20 percentage points higher than cash, showing a generational difference.
The budget size for Parents' Day was also larger than for the Lunar New Year holiday. Half of the respondents chose an average gift cost per person between 100,000 and 200,000 KRW. This was followed by under 100,000 KRW (35%) and between 200,000 and 300,000 KRW (12%), indicating that spending was more than twice as much on average compared to Lunar New Year gifts (under 100,000 KRW at 84.6%).
Additionally, 78% of respondents said they would 'deliver the gift in person.' This was four times higher than non-face-to-face delivery methods such as parcel services. When asked about the meaning of Parents' Day, 63% of respondents answered that 'Parents' Day is an important day to express gratitude to parents,' supporting this. Their main gift purchasing channels were overwhelmingly mobile/online shopping channels like Tmon (70%).
