Seoul Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation Selects a Total of 65 Scholarship Students
Scholarships totaling over 170 million KRW awarded to 25 high school and 40 university students... Applications accepted from May 3 to 14 with recommendations from school principals and local district heads
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that it will select a total of 65 scholarship students for 2021 from the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Song Jin-su).
The purpose is to nurture outstanding local talents through scholarship support and to spread a community culture of growing together.
The number of selected students includes 25 high school students and 40 university students who are experiencing difficulties in their studies due to economic reasons, and a total of about 170 million KRW in scholarships will be provided.
Scholarship students will be selected in four categories: ▲ Residents' Unity Scholarship ▲ Model Scholarship ▲ Special Talent Scholarship ▲ Small Amount Scholarship.
The Residents' Unity Scholarship is divided into a 4-year scholarship and a 1-year scholarship, with support funds up to 3.5 million KRW per semester.
For the 4-year scholarship, support is provided to first-year students currently enrolled in a domestic 4-year university who had excellent academic performance throughout their third year of high school. The 1-year scholarship is for second, third, and fourth-year university students currently enrolled in domestic universities who have demonstrated excellent academic performance in the past year.
The Model Scholarship targets students with excellent academic performance in the past year, and the Special Talent Scholarship targets students who have placed within the top three in nationwide or larger competitions in mathematics, science, sports, cultural arts, or technical fields. High school students receive 1 million KRW, and university students receive up to 2 million KRW.
The Small Amount Scholarship provides 200,000 KRW to university students who have taken out general repayment student loans handled by the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
Applications can be made by high school and university students (including new students in 2021) who have continuously resided in Gangseo-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date (April 21, 2021). However, high school students must apply with a recommendation from their school principal, and university students (except for the Small Amount Scholarship) must apply with a recommendation from the head of their residential neighborhood office.
Students who receive full tuition or scholarships from the government, local governments, other foundations, or schools are excluded.
The application period is from May 3 to May 14, and applicants must submit the application form and related documents in person or by mail to the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation office.
Required documents include ▲ Scholarship application form ▲ Consent form for personal information provision ▲ Health insurance payment confirmation and eligibility certificate ▲ Resident registration abstract ▲ Certificate of enrollment, etc. For Residents' Unity, Model, and Special Talent scholarship students, additional documents such as ▲ Scholarship recommendation letter (from school principal or neighborhood office head) ▲ Self-introduction letter ▲ Academic transcript ▲ Resident registration copy ▲ Copy of lease contract ▲ Tuition payment receipt ▲ Documents proving special talents (only for Special Talent Scholarship) must be submitted. Small Amount Scholarship applicants must additionally submit loan verification documents. All submitted documents must be issued after the announcement date.

The district will select a total of 65 scholarship students in June through the scholarship selection committee, announce the results on the foundation’s website, and notify individuals separately.
