LG Twin Towers Cleaning Workers End Sit-in... Agreement Reached to Work at Mapo Building
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyeon-jin] The cleaning workers who were protesting at the LG Yeouido Twin Towers have ended their protest and agreed to move to the LG Mapo Building to continue working.
S&I Corporation (S&I), an LG building management affiliate, announced on the 30th that it reached this agreement together with the building cleaning subcontractor Jisoo INC and the LG Twin Tower branch of the Seoul branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions’ National Public Transport Workers’ Union. The labor and management agreed that all cleaning workers currently protesting at the Yeouido Twin Towers will start working at the LG Mapo Building from July 1, and that the retirement age, currently 60, will be extended to 65. After age 65, contracts will be extended annually up to age 69.
The Twin Tower cleaning workers were dismissed at the end of last year when S&I terminated its contract with Jisoo INC, the subcontractor to which the workers belonged. Since then, they have been protesting at the Twin Towers demanding employment succession. With this agreement, the protest will end after about four months.
