Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop: "Looking into Young People's Lives and Preparing Measures"
City to Operate 'Youth and Adolescents Special Week' from May 3 to 7
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 30th that from the 3rd to the 7th of next month will be designated as the ‘Youth and Adolescents Special Week’ to listen to the difficulties faced by youth and adolescents.
Earlier, Mayor Lee designated the period from the 8th to the 12th of last month as ‘Small Business Owners Special Week’ and from the 22nd to the 26th of the same month as ‘Culture and Arts Special Week’ to overcome COVID-19, during which he visited sites and held meetings to hear difficulties and suggestions, and announced measures reflecting the results.
This ‘Youth and Adolescents Special Week’ was prepared as the third step for inspecting the livelihood field.
On the first day, the 3rd of next month, a signing ceremony for the Youth 13 (Work+Life) Account will be held at Chosun Institute of Science and Technology.
Chosun Institute of Science and Technology is a representative specialized university in the region that has sent the largest number of successful candidates nationwide (73 out of 186 first-round technical positions) to Global Motors, a flagship project of the Gwangju-type job model.
Mayor Lee plans to encourage the practical education site that produces customized talents needed in the local industrial field and then visit the Youth 13 Account signing ceremony to deliver a message of support along with the account that helps young people taking their first step into society to prepare seed money.
On the 4th, he will visit the ‘Youth Life Design Center,’ a specialized facility for youth job experience, to tour creative career activities and job experience sites such as ecological architecture, woodworking, cafes, and figure making.
On the 6th, he will visit the youth training center and crisis youth support facility project sites. The crisis youth support facilities, which had been operated separately, will move into vacant spaces within the youth training center starting with the out-of-school youth support center this year and continuing until next year.
Finally, on the 7th, he will visit the youth job and startup support sites at Dongmyeong-dong I-PLEX and the Citizens Hall.
At I-PLEX, he will share best practices with companies participating in the region-led youth job project and young people, and listen to voices from the field.
Additionally, at the Citizens Hall startup support launch ceremony, he will encourage young entrepreneurs in various fields such as food and beverage, crafts and product manufacturing, culture, and media, and listen to difficulties faced in the startup field.

Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “In the economy frozen by COVID-19, not only startups but also learning spaces and part-time jobs have decreased, putting young people in a crisis where the foundation of their lives is shaken. Through this special week, we will look more closely at the living conditions of young people and prepare measures.”
