Korea-US-Japan Joint Chiefs of Staff Share Concerns on North Korea's Nuclear Issue and Confirm Importance of Trilateral Cooperation
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea, the United States, and Japan shared concerns about North Korea's nuclear and missile programs and confirmed the importance of trilateral cooperation, the JCS announced on the 30th.
Won In-chul, Chairman of the South Korean JCS, Mark Milley, Chairman of the U.S. JCS, and Yamazaki Koji, Chief of Staff of the Japanese Joint Staff (equivalent to JCS Chairman), held the ROK-US-Japan Joint Chiefs of Staff Meeting (Tri-CHOD) in Hawaii, USA, on the same day (Korean time) and shared concerns regarding North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
At the meeting, Chairman Won emphasized the importance of trilateral cooperation for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the Northeast Asia region, and Chairman Milley reaffirmed the ironclad defense commitment to South Korea and Japan, stating that "the United States is prepared to employ all military capabilities to provide extended deterrence."
Chief of Staff Yamazaki stressed the full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

This face-to-face meeting of the ROK-US-Japan Joint Chiefs of Staff is the first since October 2019, when Chairman Milley’s inauguration ceremony was held in the United States.
