POSCO Holds Strategic Meeting to Fully Implement Group-Level ESG Management
Chairman Choi Jung-woo: "The Driving Force Behind POSCO Is the Genuine Empathy and Participation of Employees"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO announced on the 30th that it held a Corporate Citizenship Strategy Meeting to share the progress of corporate citizenship promotion at the group level, ESG practices, and the '2021 Key Promotion Plan,' deciding to make this year the inaugural year for achieving results through corporate citizenship practice.
Following the Corporate Citizenship Advisory Meeting held on the 8th, the '2021 First Half Corporate Citizenship Strategy Meeting' chaired by Chairman Choi Jeong-woo on the 16th was attended both online and offline by POSCO executives, presidents of 22 group companies, and heads of 11 overseas subsidiaries.
The meeting began with a presentation of research results objectively analyzing POSCO's corporate citizenship practice activities, focusing on the POSCO CCMS (Corporate Citizenship Management Standards) case by Professor Song Jae-yong of Seoul National University.
Professor Song Jae-yong, who is also the chair of the International Business Division of the American Management Association, said, "Since POSCO declared corporate citizenship as its management philosophy in 2018, it has not merely been a declaration but has been sincerely practiced through practical guides like CCMS, which was surprising. Through this, POSCO has produced numerous excellent practical achievements in a short period, and it is necessary to theoretically organize these Best Practices and actively communicate them internally and externally in the future," he emphasized.
Following this, Yang Won-jun, head of the Corporate Citizenship Office, presented ways to enhance corporate citizenship practice capabilities based on the Corporate Citizenship Charter and CCMS.
He urged active participation in the 'My Little Challenge,' which encourages POSCO Group employees to communicate with colleagues and practice small goals together to habituate corporate citizenship in daily life, and in the CID (Collective Impact Design) project to enhance group-level synergy.
Along with this, a plan was announced to theoretically reinterpret and systematically tell the story of the corporate citizenship practice achievements accumulated so far to establish them as Best Practices.
The Best Practice cases will be reflected in the first revised edition of CCMS at the end of the year, shared so that POSCO Group employees can utilize them in work and daily life, and external communication will be strengthened through the promotion of a separate booklet.
Meanwhile, to effectively communicate the achievements of corporate citizenship practice, the six representative corporate citizenship projects announced in December 2019 were reorganized into five corporate citizenship brand systems: carbon neutrality (Green With POSCO), win-win growth (Together With POSCO), venture fostering (Challenge With POSCO), birth-friendly (Life With POSCO), and coexistence with local communities (Community With POSCO). A session was also held where the owners of each brand presented their respective progress.
The group companies, centered on the four major companies POSCO International, POSCO Engineering & Construction, POSCO Chemical, and POSCO Energy, presented their key corporate citizenship promotion projects, Best Practice plans, and CCMS customization results for each company.
Among overseas subsidiaries, POSCO China presented cases of internalizing CCMS among regional subsidiary employees through publication in the local language.
