National Medical Center Forms Special Fund Management Committee to Oversee 'Samsung Donation of 700 Billion Won'
"Transfer of All Authority Regarding Samsung Donation Management"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The National Medical Center announced on the 30th that it will form a 'Special Committee on Fund Management' to ensure that the 700 billion KRW donation from the Samsung family, given for purposes including the establishment of a central infectious disease hospital, is managed effectively through transparent procedures.
According to the National Medical Center, the Medical Center urgently convened the Donation Fund Management Committee on the 28th, the day the donation from Samsung was received. At this meeting, in accordance with the donor's wish to strengthen the nation's infectious disease response capabilities, it proposed to the board of directors the formation of a special committee to be operated jointly with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Accordingly, all authority regarding the management of the Samsung donation will be transferred to the newly formed special committee after approval by the board of directors.
The National Medical Center plans to hold a board meeting as soon as possible through proper procedures to initiate the establishment of the special committee. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency will also participate in appointing internal and external committee members.
