Korean Air Completes Transport of Over 110 Picasso Works
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korean Air announced on the 30th that it has successfully completed the transportation of works by Pablo Picasso, the "master of Cubism."
The Picasso works transported by Korean Air from Paris to Incheon Airport in four shipments since the 16th include over 110 pieces such as oil paintings, sculptures, and ceramics, weighing a total of 22 tons.
To ensure safe transportation, the company inspected the sealed condition of the artworks to enhance security and assigned the nearest apron to minimize ground movement. Using an enterprise-wide collaboration system leveraging cutting-edge IT technologies such as Google Workspace, real-time cargo information was shared at both departure and arrival points to proactively prepare for any contingencies.
Korean Air will also do its utmost to ensure the safe transport of cargo flights returning to the home country after the exhibition of the artworks.
Since deploying cargo aircraft on the U.S. Pacific route in 1971, Korean Air has accumulated experience in transporting special cargo, including artworks for the Louvre Museum, Orsay Museum, and the National Gallery in London, where temperature and humidity control are critical.
Korean Air has obtained the international standard certification (CEIV Pharma) from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which certifies expertise and excellence in the air transportation of pharmaceuticals such as COVID-19 vaccines, playing a leading role in transporting medical supplies and protective equipment.
